Looking to get something for the craft beer geek in your life? The list below meets two qualifications of being a great all-around gift. The gifts have to be appealing to both new and old craft beer geeks and truly be the gift that keeps on giving long after the holidays. Here is my list of great holiday gifts for 2007:

Membership to the American Homebrewers Association

Becoming a member of the AHA is easy and not all that expensive. It’s $38/yearAHA Logo for an individual membership and $43/year for a family membership. There are several benefits to becoming a member.

  1. Brewpup Discounts - let me just say that this is probably worth the membership alone. There is an extensive list of brewpubs across the country where you can get numerous discounts on food and merchandise purchases.
  2. Zymurgy Magazine - fun magazine with brewing and industry news from the top authors.
  3. Discounted Tickets and Access to Great American Beer Festival - I feel you could go to GABF every year, but a beer lover needs to hit up the GABF in Denver, CO at least once in their life. With a membership you also get access to the limited connoisseur session on the Saturday of the Festival. It’s not quite as crowded and you usually have access to the brewers as they’re announcing several of the awards during that session.
  4. AHA TechTalk Email Forums - members discuss recipes, brewing tips and a whole slew of other useful information.
  5. Book Discounts - The Brewers Association has their own book offerings and members find great deals.

Stop by www.beertown.org for more information. The website is great and is prime resource of mine for information beer terminology and such.

Home Brewing Kit

Set the home brewer in your life off on the right foot and purchase a home brewer’s kit. Kits run from $55 for a basic kit to well over $100. Utilize beertown.org and find a local supply shop in your vicinity and buy locally.

Goodies From Local Brewery or Brewpub

If you visit a brewery or pub this holiday season, ask if they have any merchandise. Most do and usually it’s pretty cool stuff. New Belgium and Left Hand Brewing have Left Hand Logogood online stores, but if you shop around there is great stuff all over to be found. There are great stocking stuffer ideas here too. Another idea is to pick up a Growler, or two, and hand deliver the stuff you cannot find in the liquor stores.

Any other gift ideas? Shoot me a comment and let me know.

    Hi Steve,

Congratulations on Colorado Craft Beer and a most fun and rewarding web site. Your writing about the world of Colorado and Colorado Beer is joyful to read. And the site is sweet and clean - very elegant.

When you come out for Christmas, I’ll take you to a couple (maybe more) noteworthy breweries and brew pubs in our neck of the woods. Better plan on a few days, there’s a lot of great beer to review here.

    All the best,
    Jim

    Jim,
Thanks for the kind comments. Glad you’re enjoying it. I’m getting my arms around it and the 800 lb. ball is beginning to roll. The header is next up.

Hitting up a couple places out there sounds like fun! We’re definitely looking forward to getting out there in a couple weeks.

    Cheers!
    Steve
