Football Session: Avery wins again?

As the NFL’s season comes to an end, so do the batches of winter seasonal brews that graced all our palates these past few months. As a result, I decided to lighten this session up a bit. I chose four brews that range from a light blonde to a dark brown/black porter. However, I chose to put a twist on my “judging” of them and decided to have a four brew playoff. In similar fashion to the NFL’s Giants/Packers and Chargers/Patriots games this past weekend, I equated my brews to these teams. Who will win? Read more

Colorado Craft Beer Gathering: Liquor Law Debate Gaining Steam

Following up on a post I had back at the end of November 2007 in which I received emails and comments on, the liquor law debate is starting to pick up speed again. I’m sure it will be like this all the way until November.  This past week there have been several good articles written that debate the issue.  All detail the fine line between allowing alcohol sales on Sundays and whether or not to allow sales in grocery stores too.

Colorado Craft Beer Helping Do More

Over the last few months I have been amazed by the generosity of the brewers and breweries in this state with the amount of giving back to social causes that they do. I have been wanting to contribute to several charities myself for some time, but for one excuse or another, I have just sat on my hands and done nothing.

So, I finally said to myself enough is enough and started searching the web for some of the issues I find important hoping to find ways I can help do more. I came across a SixDegrees.org. Most of you know the “Six Degrees” concept where any one person is connected by six or fewer relationships. Yes, most famous is probably Kevin Bacon. Well, Kevin Bacon actually partnered with Network for Good to create a social networking site that plays on the “Six Degrees” concept in helping people find and support their favorite charities by using the logic that we’re all connected to each other and we need to help one another out. On the site, they have a cool feature called a Charity Badge that you can create for a website. You can even check out what other charity badges people are creating. So, I’ve created a charity badge to help support the Colorado Environmental Coalition.

The Colorado Environmental Coalition has been supporting Colorado citizens for over 40 years in mobilizing organizations and individuals to stand up for what makes Colorado great, its environment. Please check out their website and if you feel so compelled as I was in supporting their efforts please click on my charity badge on my website and give what you can. Again, even the smallest amount helps. If you are getting this feed through your RSS reader, you can also get to the badge by clicking here. I don’t get anything for your donations other than the satisfaction of knowing I might have helped someone else “do more”.

If the CEC isn’t your thing, but you still would like to help another cause, click the Network for Good link in the badge and it will take you to their website where there are several ways to search for the charity you would like to support.

Thanks and cheers!

Check out today’s Food section of The Denver Post.  The lead story of this section is ondenverpost_online_logo.gif Colorado’s winter brews.  They do a good job of breaking down several of the brews that are still out there (many of which we reviewed here too) as well as a sampling of several local recipes made with beer.  You can check out the online article here.
