Major Tom’s Pomegranate Wheat

I know. I know. It’s cold outside. I just can’t seem to shake my love of warm weather. While moseying around my local retail establishment, I was longing for something to remind me of summer though. Believe it or not, there are still several brews out there that fall more into a summer seasonal category than a fall or winter category. A friend of mine recommended Fort Collins Brewery’s Major Tom’s Pomegranate Wheat (Fort Collins, CO)
some time back, but I just hadn’t had a chance to getting around to trying it. I decided to give it a go though. I have to be honest. I cannot remember the last time I tried pomegranate in anything, let alone in beer. So I didn’t really have anything to base this beer on.
The beer was almost clear upon my pour with a descent head on it. The smell was fruity, but honestly I’ve never really stopped and smelled a pomegranate up to this point, so my judgment may be off a bit. Let me tell you though, after you take your first taste of this beer, it definitely springs you back into warmer weather. At first it tasted like a Sweet Tart, but I gradually got used to it and it ended crisply.
At just under 5% ABV, this is a lighter beer that I truly believe will quench your thirst on those hot days. Or if you’re like me, have it towards late fall/early winter when you’re wishing for warmer days. Overall, I liked this brew and would have it again. I may have just needed something that would feel like it was cleansing my palate after so many winter ales though.
For something different and if you can find it, give Major Tom’s a go!
