Colorado Craft Beer Spotlight: Pumphouse Brewery & Restaurant - Longmont, Colorado

With the long, Thanksgiving weekend coming to a close we decided to hit up our local watering hole, Pumphouse Brewery & Restaurant, for a much need break from turkey leftovers. This is a great brewery located in the heart of downtown Longmont, CO. The brewery is the place on Friday evenings and always seems busy on summer weekends with their outdoor patio that shares the backside of the Red Zone Bar. They serve up your typical pub fare, but if you happen to catch happy hour get the calamari and mussels.

While we’ve had most of the brews on tap, we decided to venture from our favorite brew, the Red Alert. The Red Alert is a well balanced, American Amber style ale. Today though, we tried their Wildfire Wheat, Pyro Porter and the seasonal Ginger Chai Holiday Ale.

I generally love Porters, but the Pyro Porter was just a little too sweet for me today. The Wheat was a little crispier than the comparable Blue Moon Wheat Ale, but good nonetheless. The show stopper was the Ginger Chai Holiday Ale. We were hesitant on this one, but our server talked us into it and we’re glad we tried it. This is a Chai without the milk. The aroma was so intense, that my wife commented that she wished that she had a candle that smelled like it. The beer felt like it was jumping on your tongue with the mix of spices.

All in all, the great part of being close to so many breweries is that you can go back and give a brew another try. I know I’ll give the porter another shot and the Wheat is usually a staple in the warmer months. Unfortunately, the Ginger Chai’s days are numbered, so definitely make a trip to Longmont and let us know what you think of this seasonal. Cheers!
